Bulletin of January 2015
House of Commons Transport Sub-Committee
Session on Manston Airport: Monday 2nd February
Dear Supporters
The most important meeting in the next month will undoubtedly be the House of Commons Transport Committee meeting. The whole of its first session will be devoted to Manston Airport, which must give some idea of how much interest there is in the media about this particular airport. The hearing will start at 4 pm on Monday 2nd Feb 2015. They are hearing oral evidence from most of the organisations which gave written evidence, as we did about Manston, to the Committee.
Squadron-Leader Angela Sutton, who masterminded the last Manston Airshow and who spent more than 30 years in the RAF, will be our representative answering questions from the MPs. The public are welcome at this session. It will be held somewhere in the House of Commons, and it would probably be wise to turn up by 3 pm to make allowance for security procedures. If you can’t make the session, you should be able to see the entire session broadcast on the Parliamentary Channel, possibly live, but certainly within a few days.
.Also on that day is a major aviation conference, called the Future Travel Experience. Venue: Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel, 18 Albert Embankment, London, SE1 7TJ. This is about 15 minutes walk from the House of Commons. It starts at midday, and those of us who wish, might like to attend the demonstration which will be held with banners etc, from 11.45 am onwards. Senior aviation personnel will be attending the Conference, and we could keep Manston in the forefront of their minds by demonstrating there. Any of us is entitled to attend the demo, but you would need to book in advance to attend the conference.
Tuesday 24th February. Mr Stephen Gilbert (MP for Newquay) has provisionally agreed to travel to Ramsgate and give a speech on the success of Newquay Airport in Cornwall. The event will probably run from midday to 2:30pm. Other organisations, like us, are expected to participate. If the meeting is confirmed and the venue and format are announced, we hope to place these details on our website. Or you could ask us about it via the Comments section of our website.
